SafeAuto Sucks, More

Wow. I previously detailed my experience with SafeAuto, and in that missive I stated I’d manage to get back a measley $21 refund of the $86 they’d stolen from me. They lied, again. I got a check (finally) for thirteen dollars, not $21, but $13. So, to recap, they lied, took my money, never got the policy information, got screwed, lied to again about a $21 refund, and then only gt $13. It cost me $73 to learn SafeAuto Sucks. Boy is that a lesson I won’t soon forget.

Safe Auto is terrible. In Georgia, the insurer is required to electronically transmit proof of insurance to the DMV. Whether or not you have your insurance card on you is irrelevant. If you get pulled over, and the insurer hasn’t transmitted that data, you’re uninsured according to the state of Georgia. Safe Auto failed to do this.

I was pulled over at a DUI check-point on New Year’s Eve, ticketed for no insurance, and paid approximately $300 in court costs to prove to a judge that I had insurance at the time.

It took me yelling and screaming at the rep on the phone and waiting on hold for about 35 minutes for a so-called supervisor, and on hold for another 20 minutes for a so-called manager to get them to transmit the data and confirm it was transmitted.

When they say the minimums, they mean minimum everything – service, competence, etc.

I thought I could save a few bucks a month by switching from Nationwide to Safe-Auto. Needless to say I’m back with Nationwide.

Safe Auto sucks big, fat, thick, black you know whats.

what i think is the saddest thing about safe auto, is that they don’t teach their customers about the coverages and what they do. state minimum is never enough coverage if you’re in an accident. they charge an assload of money for a really half assed coverage.

I hate safe auto insurence. Just tonight I was calling in to make a monthly payment on my car insurence. I was told the policy expired two days ago. I said excuse me, we just did another policy renewal just last month.well turns out that because THEY
the customer no service jerks entered the information wrong on My Wifes licence and never recieved a MVR report back on her, that our policy jumped by 50 dollars and that the payment that was due was over 200.00 more than in my bill. The bastards took less money, but then told me when the correct mvr report came back that they would credit my debit card. I asked to speak to a supervisor- was then informed that the policy would be credited, not my card.. Pretty crafty sons of bitchs.. I say safe auto is not safe at all. They will rape, rob, and take all they can from you and screw you in the end. I am going to the BBB. Safe auto please ROT IN HELL

Can anyone advise how to best pursue this from the beginning and what tricks to watch out for? I want to do my best to cover my a** and to hold SA accountable without having to involve a lawyer. Also, what do I watch out for from them to make sure my rights are best served. Do I want to notify my insurance company? I have heard not to alert my insurance co. Remember, when you call to complain, don’t rip a sales rep, they probably were not the one you’re upset at.It isn’tlike they pick your name out of a hat and say "oh,let’s tick off Mr. Jones today."

  24. SafeAutoAgent had this to say,

I also work for safe auto as per another person commented on this board. First of all, the calls are recorded & ALL coverages are explained to the customer including the limits of liability. The customer is told right up front prior to any coverages being discussed that we ONLY sell the STATE required limits of liability & ASK the customer if this is OK…if they agree then the quote continues, & if they say they are looking for higher limits, again they are told we do no sell higher limits so if the customer agrees and then buys the policy then that is their fault & not the insurance companies. Secondly, just because other insurnace companies do not ask about your medical history, this is only a SMART thing to do as would you as a consumer allow your neighbor to borrow & drive your car is you know up front they have a history of repeated seizures?? It would be pretty stupid on any car owners part to allow this just as it would for an insurance company to sell insurance to someone knowing they have a know history of seizures & take no medications to control them. As for "taking money" from someone’s bank account, Safe Auto is not set up for any "automatic" withdrawls from accounts, only when authorized by the customer when they start the pol or call in to make a payment over the phone. As for the SR22 atttachments on the insurance policy which allows a person to pay a reinstatement fee to get their licence back, quite a few customers think that when any insurance company files with the state to let the state know the driver has insurance (which is what an SR22 does), what they fail to keep in mind is the STATE mandates how long the driver has to keep the SR22 policy…the insured will buy the pol, get his insuranced filed with the state, pay his reinstatement fee and get his license reinstated…but then he/she only pays for the 1st month and then lets the pol lapse at which time the STATE requires the insurance company to refile with the STATE to let the STATE know the pol. has lapsed and at that time the STATE will turn around and suspend the drivers license ALOT of times, not letting the uninsured know that their license is AGAIN under suspension until they get pulled over and their drivers license is called in and comes back with a status of being under suspension again. So in all fairness, some of the comments made here have to fall back on the consumer who is only trying to beat the system. So it’s best to know what the consumers responsibility is along with if what the insurnace company is offering (only STATE required limits of liabilty) best suits the consumer. Alot of people buy a policy, pay the first month down & have their insurnce cards (or proof of insurance) faxed right out to them, believing that is all they need, is that card & don’t need to pay their next bill. The STATE requires consumers to be insured, not the insurnace companies….so as with any product being sold to a consumer, be aware of what the product will do for you that you are purchasing.

I so totally agree with all of theses BAD comments. It has been three weeks since my accident and I still have not even recieved a phone call from the claims officer yet. I pay my insurance monthly and have for five years, they said since I done it that way I would have to be investigated. This was my first accident ever. I slid on some ice and hit a bank. Thank goodness I didn’t hit another car.Safe auto is exactally what it says, Minimum coverage for a minimum budget. They will not pay you when you have an accident. All they do is take your money and keep you legal with the police. I have already paid out of my own pocket to repair my truck so, I would have something to drive.
"DO NOT USE SAFE AUTO" They are a rip off and soon every one will know that. They are only hurting them selves by doing honest people this way.

WHITEHALL, Ohio — A man who barricaded himself inside the headquarters of an auto insurance company committed suicide Wednesday night after releasing his female hostage, NBC 4’s John Ivanic reported.

The hostage, who was released at about 10:45 p.m., was not hurt, Ivanic reported. Police said the gunman committed suicide a few minutes later.
SWAT officers surrounded the Safe Auto Insurance headquarters, located on East Broad Street near Robinwood Avenue in Whitehall, at about 4:15 p.m., Ivanic reported.

    PHOTOS ADDED: Images From Scene

Employees who were at the scene said the situation began when a male employee’s job was terminated, NBC 4’s Monique Ming Laven reported.

    Standoff Ends
    SWAT Surrounds Office
Witnesses said the man went back to his car, grabbed a gun and returned to the building. Witnesses said shots were fired, Ivanic reported.

"The woman came out of the hallway there and she was screaming and he shot at her," witness Joe Summers said. "That’s when I took off running. I did see him shoot at the woman in the hallway."

"They were going to escort him out through the marketing department and then someone then started hollering, yelling, ‘Gun! Gun! Gun!’ Then the doors started shutting and everybody called 911 at that point," Safe Auto employee Pam Mayer said.

Employees said they started to hear trouble soon after the suspect was brought into a room to be fired, Laven reported. Someone had already cleaned out the man’s work area.

"Then we heard the (gun)fire and then we looked out the window and there were cruisers already here," Mayer said.

Some employees ducked under their desks. Many looked around for support, Laven reported.

"We just kind of stuck together until (police) knocked on the door and told us to get out of the building," Mayer said. "At that point, we didn’t know he had a hostage until we got outside."

A female human resources worker may have been taken hostage, Ivanic reported. She was not injured.

The building was evacuated. Employees were moved to a COTA bus located in the parking lot.

A worker who was evacuated told Ivanic that a man was seen running into the building with a gun.

"He looked mad," Summers said. "I looked him right in the face. He looked mad."

A police negotiator was called to the scene and was reportedly in contact with the gunman.

Employees were told not to return to work until noon Thursday, NBC 4 reported.

Robinwood Avenue was closed between Broad and Doney Street.

Stay with NBC 4 and for more information.

Customer service is poor. You never speak to the same person. There website is down frequently. They won’t allow you to make a payment until it is due, which causes you to have a very small window of time to pay. This causes you to be at risk of not being insured, or canceled. All in all, I am very dissatisfied and am going to change companies at the first opportunity.

WOW, this is entertaining! I am also an ex-employee of safe auto…we are treated as badly if not worse then customers. Unfortunately, safe auto puts there offices in very depressed areas, hires very hard working people who make them alot of money and then forces these good people to be dishonest with customers or lose their job. My husband still works there( not by choice, but bills must be paid) and I know what goes on there on a daily basis. Its pure evil! Keep complaining, all of you! One day they will get what is comming to them! Hopefully all lawsuits are won against them! Just remember that most (not all), employees hate it there and don’t want to deceive you. The employees have children to feed as well. FYI-my husband is a top sales agent and his pay has been cut so much that we qualify for assistance….many agents there don’t even make commission anymore.

Saying Safe Auto sucks doesn’t begin to express my feeling! I was hit by a safe auto client a week ago. Safe auto claims that they cannot contact their client & still have not sent an adjuster to see my truck. They refuse to get me a rental until my truck is repaired. I have 3 small kids at home & one needs to get allergy shots and I am stuck at home without a vehicle thatks to safe auto. Thank God I have State Farm insurance & they are working on getting my truck fixed, but since I don’t carry rental they also cannot get me a rental! I could pay for one on my own & submit it to safe auto but it is obvious that I would never see my money & I don’t have that kind of money to throw away for peoples’ ineffieciency. I plan to make sure that I inform as many people as possible to never get safe auto insurance!

Wish I would have looked this crap up before I bought a policy from ShaftAuto! When I started a policy with them the lady told me that my payments were due on the 17th of each month, I soon received the policy info in the mail along with some papers to reject certain coverages, etc.. I signed the papers and faxed them to the provided fax number
before the due date. Then about 10 days later I received more papers, one stating that my payment was due in a few days!!! WTF?? So I called them, right up front the lady said they still need to get my rejection forms, and she said my payment was not actually due until the 16th. Ok
so I faxed again, waited 1hour called back to confirm, I got a new person this time, he said he did not see it, and said sometimes it takes a while maybe a few days because of the underwriting department. Soon a new statement came in the mail this time almost twice the amount I should be paying!!!! Called again, the Lady said it’s because they had not received my rejection forms, I said I’ve faxed them twice (BTW they have this demeanor like you are lying at all times) so I faxed them again (at a new number she gave me), called back 15-30min still nothing,
at this point the cancellation was in three days, the guy said I could call back the day before the cancellation period (16th) and make just the payment for the orig amount, and to check if they received the forms. I made my payment on the 16th, and yep you guessed it “Sir we have not received your forms yet” F@#K!!!! I faxed again!! Now today I received a notice of cancellation on the 12th!! So I call, I said why is my payment due before the due real date???? Lady says because I have a balance from the coverages that have not been rejected, because they I have not provided them the F#$KING rejection forms! I explained to her that I have faxed the the forms on several occasions. she said nope, I said let me speak to a manger. I explained, and manager was no help what so ever!!!! I said if I send the forms in the mail, and if/when you get them will you reverse the charges, NOPE!!! Sorry. She explained to me how it’s my fault that I did not get them the rejection forms! Well F$%K you SafeAuto! I will go out of my way to do everything in my power to stop you guys from screwing another unsuspecting honest person out of hard earned money!!!!

It is very obvious that this company utilizes deceptive practices.
Also my fax machine has NEVER had an issue sending faxes, we use it for business daily. I get a conformation from my fax every time I transmit a fax, It tells me If an error occurred or if it was successful, and me being an EE I know how fax machines work, and I know they got it!!!

It’s also funny how when we post our bad experiences with shoddy companies, an employee alway jumps in to discredit your claims, kind of like they expect people to be unhappy with the scams, so they pay someone to google “Safe Auto Sucks” and then do some kind of damage control when they find the posts. LOL

BTW I do feel bad for the employees of safe auto it’s not their fault, this company is obviously exploiting them too.

safe auto stole 75% of their agents commissions, lost the court case and two appeals, has been ordered to pay $12million in damages and still won’t pay. one agent was so angry they fired him. instead of hustling him off the property per their own protocol, they handed him his briefcase (with gun) and he went to blasting. management are whores, thieves, liars and worse.
