SafeAuto Sucks

Let me start with this. If you need car insurance, do not use SafeAuto. They’re not cheap, they’re not fast, they’re not customer friendly, they’re not helpful, and frankly, I’m not even sure they would ever pay a claim if you had one. I needed to get car insurance, and the dealer said to try them, that they can do it all over the fax instantly. So I call, get a quote of $86 for the initial payment, and they can fax over the papers immediately. So I said sure, and gave my credit card number. Bad idea. After 4 hours of waiting, a dozen phone calls, a dozen twits telling me it’s all been faxed, and nothing to show for it, I drove over to a local Nationwide insurance agent. In 15 minutes, I had a policy, the papers all signed, and a bill for $53. When I call SafeAuto to get a refund, I’m told that I’ll get $21 back. What? Yeah, turns out I was suckered into two non refundable charges that I was never informed about nor consented to. After arguing with them and my credit card company, I still got nowhere. Hence, SafeAuto sucks. They lie, and cheat, and given the chance, steal too.

You buy insurance to protect youreslf and if the other person’s insurance is not handling things properly, go through your own company or speak to a manager. Stop crying on a web site.

NEVER EVER USE SAFE AUTO NOT EVEN THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE TEAM MEMBERS CARRY THIS INSURANCE. THAT SAYS ALOT!!! IF YOU DO CARRY SAFE AUTO INSURANCE, GOOD LUCK.

Took me 3months to get anywhere with safeauto. Now have Esurance. Cheaper,
get back to you ASAP. Do most work online, but if need to talk to someone can tell them online and they call call you in 1or 2 minutes. Also if you call them you get someone in 2to 3 mins. Not like Safeauto where they put you on hold till they can find someone that might know about there ins.
Sounds like Insurance Monkey works for Safeauto.

well me and my husband had safe auto for like 2 years and for awhile it was alright eventhough we were paying twice in 1 month. but for some reason it started to go up every month and when we called we didn’t get answers for it? so we dropped them but to tell you the truth we went to progressive and now having the same problem? nothing has changed at all?

all I have to say is, $86 just to swich insurance from 1 car to another. THIS WAS JUST A FEE! it didn’t count the payment diffrence or anything. lady said" you can pay this them make the regular payment next month. payment was always due on the 27th. come the 10th, I get a letter saying 2 payments were due in 3 days! I called ’em, they said, dont worry, were working on it, it won’t be canceled. the 14th it was canceled, had to pay another $10 to get it reinstaded. they are insane

I fee is a fee and a due date is a due date. Pay your bills on time and you will not owe additional fees.

Well Grey, you request a copy of the policy by calling 1800-SafeAuto or you can get them from the state department of insurance.

Life is really not that tough!! What fees did they "tag" you with, late fee or application fee? How did they find those fees from you.

I have now read through your story, you got a policy and entered into a contact with Safe Auto. You paid your premium and then wanted to cancel the contract that you just entered into.

It is okay, people make mistakes, but take responsiblity for your mistake.

No, see, that’s the trick, I never received any paperwork. Why is this so hard to comprehend? They took so long getting me the papers I had to go with another company, THEN requested a refund for a policy that I NEVER RECEIVED, READ, OR SIGNED.

OK, I think most have missed the point of very cheap car insurance. It’s for those of us who really can’t drive, and if you notice in alot of your responses the "other" driver was paid and/or covered. I have a really horrendous (bad, for those of you with english LD)including, but not limited to- DUI, driving into a bridge and a parked car (twice), running a stop sign, but none for speeding. So, if I run into your parked car sitting on a bridge, you will get paid. I -on the other hand- drive a car priced between $1000 and $2000 so I buy another one rather than expect my extremely cheap car insurance to cover it. If you have a nice car and a good driving record, SafeAuto and other companies like it, were never intended for you. I can afford to keep driving because of them. So maybe the question is -Is it their fault for the accidents in the first place since they keep all the bad drivers on the road?-
Well, not all of us are perfect in every area, my perfection just happens to be english, not driving.

SafeAuto does suck. We are actually going through problems right now and we have been with them for over 2 years now. Safe auto has messed our checking account up completely!! They took 2 payments out at one time. Now remember I do not have automatic withdrawal coming out with them. I have to pay them myself. they no nothing about my account. Well the charged my account 2 times deposited one time back in and took out another.Not only are we now overdraft BIG BUCKS in our checking account but now we have to go through the trouble of filing a dispute against them with our bank. We cannot do anything with our bank account. Safeauto does suck big time. I am pregnant and just broke down big time becasue of all this stress they cause me. My husband got on the phone and told them we use yall because yall are cheap we have to live from check to check and now we are overdraft and have no money to live off of until 2 weeks. They didnt seem to care of course. They really SUCK!!!

I don’t have Safe Auto insurance, but I have a claim against them. I war rear ended by a person with Safe Auto Insurance on May 22, 2006. We have been battling since then. They totaled my 1986 Nissan truck at $2560.00 and wanted my truck. I can get my truck repaired for several hundred dollars less that that. This truck was my Father’s. He gave it to me prior to his death and I AM NOT GIVING UP MY TRUCK! All I get out of the csr is stonewalling.

Thelma, There is an easy explanation for your problem. The value of your vehicle has nothing to do with the fact that it was your fathers. This does not increase the vehicles value.

You do have opinions, you can submit the loss to your insurance company and they can value your vehicle and see if they give you a different value. And yes, you are clearly ignorant and stupid!

How did they refuse to pay for anything??? Appears your problem is that you feel your vehicle value is more than what Safe Auto is offering.

The problem is that Safe Auto uses a third party company to value vehicle. It is like when you trade your vehicle in at the dealership and you feel they did not offer enough.

BUT you need to realize that your truck is 20 year old and $2560 appear to be in line with its true value.

As far as your threats, what has anybody really done to you??

I would encourage everyone to review the states insurance complaint ratios and judge for yourself how well customers and associates are treated at "Safe Auto".

I believe you will find they average one of the highest (worst) complanit ratios in the industry.

How sad that Insurance Monkey had to post an ex-employees home phone number. How sad that some of Insurance Monkey’s emails are being done while they are at work. How sad that the monkey is trolling for employees on a blog that is ripping the company they work for, as if anyone on here would want to work for a company like UnSafe at any speed Auto.

Customer service is poor. You never speak to the same person. There website is down frequently. They won’t allow you to make a payment until it is due, which causes you to have a very small window of time to pay. This causes you to be at risk of not being insured, or canceled. All in all, I am very dissatisfied and am going to change companies at the first opportunity.

The days of ‘personalized’ direct-agent style service are long gone, and, it is now truly buyer-be-aware in all things regarding insurance; hasn’t Katrina taught all of us this lesson!

When we moved to PA we chose Safe Auto, because it was the quickest, easiest, and certainly cheapest way to go for us; everyone else wanted us to switch our established homeowners policy to them to get rates anywhere close..

I think this site needs some Jerk Moderation; and anyone who believes that Safe Auto has any more or less potential, to be any better or worse, than another company out there right now, needs to get a clue~

I love Big Mama, even though she is a puke drooling giggling beast she is part of my posse. The only thing she is lacking is blonde hair. But talk about a haircut, wow!!! the high and tight Marine look does it for me. It is hard for me to keep my hands off of her (or any other employee to tell the truth). My husband and I have just finished an unsavory encounter with safeauto every month something was different when I would get my statement and I have heard at least five different explanations for the same questions in the short 3 months since we first purchased our policy and it was the same rudeness fron the customer service people then when asked to speak to a supervisor be put on hold endlessly, and it was also a trial to get anything straight with this faxxing crap because the answer to some of the questions was that they didn’t have the information requested, well I faxed ALL my information to them 3 seperate times and I have kept the page that is returned from the fax machine that states my transmission to that # was successful. I have paid them $200 dollars less than what my 6 month coverage is in only 3 months. My next complaint is going to be to the insurance commisison, so safeatuo is NOT cheap and at first the are VERY helpful at least until they have you locked into an agreement what happens between then and your first statement is anybody’s guess so I would do what they suggest TALK to ALOT of company’s before you go panicking to find one and don’t do it online speak to a representative, things aren’t the same with insurance company’s compared to the memories I have when my parents insurance agent came to them now all anybody wants is the almighty dollar and good luck to anyone that doesn’t know the difference between full tort and limited tort in Pa make sure you find out from an informed agent rather than your family members.

I have had Geico insurance for almost 5 years now and unfortunately had an accident where my vehicle was totalled out. The adjuster was really good he cut me a check in hand 2 days later and I was able to go to the car dealer and buy a new car really fast. Not a problem with them ever and price is real good too. I compared my rate to allstate and allstate was almost double, state farm was even higher than allstate. Geico also gave me discounts on my renewals when I did’nt have any accidents and tickets, I think that is pretty good. Good luck insurance shopping everybody.
