SafeAuto Sucks

Let me start with this. If you need car insurance, do not use SafeAuto. They’re not cheap, they’re not fast, they’re not customer friendly, they’re not helpful, and frankly, I’m not even sure they would ever pay a claim if you had one. I needed to get car insurance, and the dealer said to try them, that they can do it all over the fax instantly. So I call, get a quote of $86 for the initial payment, and they can fax over the papers immediately. So I said sure, and gave my credit card number. Bad idea. After 4 hours of waiting, a dozen phone calls, a dozen twits telling me it’s all been faxed, and nothing to show for it, I drove over to a local Nationwide insurance agent. In 15 minutes, I had a policy, the papers all signed, and a bill for $53. When I call SafeAuto to get a refund, I’m told that I’ll get $21 back. What? Yeah, turns out I was suckered into two non refundable charges that I was never informed about nor consented to. After arguing with them and my credit card company, I still got nowhere. Hence, SafeAuto sucks. They lie, and cheat, and given the chance, steal too.

I have been with safeauto for over 2 yrs they have been nothing but excellent to me. I was involved in a minor fender bender which embarisly was my fault. They came out did a estimate and had a check in the other parties hands withing one week. that is service. they are very competitive in pricing . being young insurance is high and they are the lowest price company for me other ins companys wanted 400.00 a month for me and my 99 grand cherokee, safeauto i insure myself grand cherokee and my fiancee and 95 acura integra
*(we are both under 25 ) for 286 a month. both being full coverage. you cant beat that.Safe auto rocks.

I had safeauto send me an inflated bill,when i asked why they said they’d get back to me.when i called i was told that the bill was correct, and that i had untill midnight to pay up.

i PAID SAFE AUTO 161.00 IN MARCH AND AGAIN IN APRIL MY BILL FOR MAY WAS 68.00 I PAID IT 1 DAY LATE AND THGEY WOULD NOT COVER A WRECK I HAD 2 DAYS EARLIER. SINCE THEN I PAID THEM 108.00 DOLLARS A MONTH AND NOW I GET A LETTER FROM THE STATE SAYING MY LICENSE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FOR NOT HAVING INSURANCE AT THE TIME OF THE WRECK. TO TOPIT ALL OFF I PAID THIS MONTHS BILL ON SATURDAY AND CALLED ON MONDAY TO CANCEL AND THEY SAY ALL I GET BACK IS ABOUT ONE THIRD OF MY PAYMENT. IF I’M NOT COVERED WHY TAKE MY MONEY AT ALL. THEY SUCK AND ANYONE WHO SIGNS WITH THEM CAN EXPECT TO BE TAKEN.

my husband had full coverage ins. unfortunately the vehicle was damaged all tires and all windows slashed and broke, radio stollen. we owe 5,000 on the truck and blue book value is at 4,500. safe auto wanted to total the vehicle for 2,000. it took weeks of arquing just to get them to pay for the damage only, after all the car was structually safe to drive, and who wants to pay on a car they dont even have anymore. not us!!! Then it took 2 more weeks to get a check. total time without our vehicle one month.so we didnt pay ins for one month, it wasnt being driven, they were nice enough to cancel the policy and report it to bmv, license suspended… if you chose them hope you dont have to file a claim and be prepared to fight if you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aii these letter are all true becauseiam going throuth the same thing these people at safeauto are liers.they sould not be aloud to be in benass.

Maybe you would receive better service if the associates could understand you, because if you speak the way you type it is no wonder you experienced bad service. Can anyone please explain to me what "throuth" & "benass" are? Anyway if you are going to take the time to type and complain, at the very least pay attention to some key things, for example – spelling, grammar, and maybe some sentence structure!

Yeah, Debbie needs to pick up a copy of "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" badly, but SafeAuto still sucks. Their business practices are deceptive, and abusive to the customer.

Im currently have insurance though them so far I havent had any problems

While I am sorry that many of you had problems with Safe Auto, I am more sorry for those of you who do not have a command of the English language. Did any of you read your policy? An insurance company is required by law to pay on claims for which you have continuous coverage. If you fail to pay your premium, you are not covered. It’s that simple. I will bet those of you who requested a refund failed to read the refund policy. Caveat Emptor!

Ahh, Ms. Emptor, you failed to read my story. I was never informed of a "Screw the Customer!" refund policy when purchasing, nor did I ever receive the bloody paperwork to read.

I called them on my cellphone, got my quote, and received my fax paperwork very shortly after. Not any problems, and I was impressed that the whole deal was so quick and simple.

Sounds to me like the fax number got confused somewhere… stuff happens.

Many hours later, the faxes arrived at the destination. Also, every time I called they insisted it was sent, and read back the right number. Do you really think I went hours with these people and never checked the fax number?

Safe Auto sucks balls. Anyone here who says they think Safe Auto is good either has never had a claim with them, or they work for Safe Auto. OF COURSE you will like Safe Auto if you never had a claim. You would have to be an idiot to think these d@*kheads would give you a hard way to go for doing nothing more than take your money. Try getting your claims adjuster to answer there phone, or return a phone call to you……OH let my include that statement to the claims adjusters SUPERVISOR. Please, if anyone gets time call Safe Autos claims department and get Ricky Spears, and Julie Salaris’ ext and leave ’em a message calling them a@@holes for me. Hands down the best way to shop for insurance is to call a few body shops. Have them tell you who is the easiest to deal with. You would be surprised how much info they are willing to tell you. Afterall they don’t get paid until your car is done…sssoooo if the adjust drags their feet they hold up the shops money. They don’t like that one bit, and they will tell you whos doing it. So far I have found that Safe Auto, and Geico are WORST out there. Good luck….and PLEASE some of you need to learn sentence structure, and spelling. I usually don’t flame for that, but I could barly make out what some of you morons were trying to say. Peace out!!!!!

I have always thought Safe Auto would never pay a claim if you had one. The way they advertise makes me sick, they don’t advertise about anything but the price, they don’t say their actual claims are paid in a timely manner or anything. I have to say though, you get what you pay for. All Safe Auto does is "keep you legal for less", when all a company does is advertise that they get you the bare minimum of insurance just to keep you legal, you shouldn’t expect any kind of coverage or support if you are in a wreck. I have been with Encompass Insurace for years and they are a great company if anyone is shopping around.

Then the accident is the other guy’s fault, get an attorney, and let them sue the crap out of whoever hit you. It’s actually quite simple, and ANY ins company is going to wiggle it’s way out of paying if it can, that’s just plain old biz sense.

Please shop around a little bit more before you manke any final decisions about your insurance carrier.

Its simple, if you buy cheap you get CHEAP! I never had trouble with them but I also never had to make a claim. I have heard horror stories from freinds but I also know how horrible some of their business skills are. Also for those who feel a need to conduct a spellong class- GET A LIFE!

Well I see some people also have had problems with safe auto. I’ve been with them now for 5 or 6 years, never missed a payment, never turned in a claim. Unfortunatly I had a car accident 2 weeks and I have not heard from anyone yet. When I arrived at work this AM a man called me who was the assigned ins. adjuster, supervisor and he was so nasty I have a call in to his supervisor. Going 3 weeks since my car accident.

Sorry those who hadd a dard time with safe auto ins. but I guess am a preety good drive, because am about to give the company a run for there money, and them out. I feel as if you can get attorney for someone hitting, my lawyer can get a two for one deal and sue them and the meanwhile……..But I was with eagle no one can compare to that ins company. But I a big believer in reading before I sign the dotted line, and ask a lot of question and if it don’t sound right I plan to kick rocks!!

well, i guess geico and safeauto are out of the picture. USAA will screw up one side and down the other if you’re military and using that. my monthly bill was nearly 300 dollars for only liability on my cracked out honda. anyway- have a good’n!

I just signed with SafeAuto because I needed insurance and i was 2 days late paying geico and they wanted to jack the price over a hundred dollars. I got Safe auto to show Geico that i don’t have to stick with them. I haven’t had a ticket or accident in over 5 years.. may be i will use this 6 months with safeauto that i prepaid to get them to do a better deal next time.. PS fear Nationwide insurance.. they tryto ruin your credit if you get behind a little

Something not ONE of you here as mentioned is that an insurance company is only as good as THE STATE your in. I mean I PITTY those poor people in Louisiana that have to pay HUGE premiums for absolutely no reason at all. Or Kentucky that charges some times almost 12% tax on car insurance. Or how about Penn….. In PA if you don’t get your limited tort form in in time your premium is going to just about double… I could go ON and ON and ON with this. As you probably have guessed I’m a CSR for SafeAuto. Does SAIC intentionally decieve it’s customers. NO! Absolutely not. Is SAIC the best company out there. NO! Absolutely not. Is SAIC the cheapest around? For most drivers probably not, but if you have a very poor record then probably SAIC is one of a very few companies that will even offer you coverage. The best advise when dealing with any company is to ask questions! Oh and to some of you…. just what part of STATE MINIMUM COVERAGE don’t you understand?

as for the csr it your job to defend your company,but do you have insurace with the company.also most of safe auto csr treat the consumer as if we are stupid.most of you make statement ,and the denie them,you’re careless .as a crs when peole send you information try to keep it are miss place it.think about the situtation you put people in because of your mistakes.as for the people with safe auto it might not have happen yet ,but it will it took 5 years for me.i’ve seen it happen to a lot,because i’m a police officer .check your ins. they might have you illegal.

I Cannot get over how many uneducated people there are in the world today. The reality is that not only are some of these uneducated people purchasing insurance through Safe Auto, but many people working for, and running, Safe Auto are just as bad. It’s a two way street. Sure, you get what you pay for, but that is no excuse for poor customer service. In turn, it is not always the adjuster’s fault when you feel you have not been treated properly. These people are extremely overworked and taken advantage of by upper management that do nothing more than sit on their asses and collect a paycheck. They complain, but the issues that they bring to light are met with deaf ears. This company has no other intrest than making as much money as possible, at the expense of uneducated customers who know no better than to purchace their product which promises to keep them legal.

Look out folks. Safe Auto Ins did an automatic deduction from my bank account and I am not even a customer of theirs. I’ve never heard of them before. So not only are they cheats, liars, etc. they are downright thiefs that steal right out of your bank account without even having any connection with them.

Oh david PLEASE!!!! Stuff like that happens all the time to any company that does direct bank account debits! The real fault in this case is your bank! Or someone got there hands on your checking information. Either way calling a company that successfully does business in 12 states and employs over 500 people "thiefs" (apporprate word would have been "thieves" BTW)is ridiculas.

I am a 21 year old female not married and renting I guess all this matters in the ins world. I have been reading some of the horror stories…The one’s I could understand…And I thought Safe Auto was the way to go, but I have been in an accident already and I have had my new car recently stolen only 1 month after I bought it (with the temp tags still on it!!!!!) So my point is I have NO time for someone to not pay my claim.!!!!!! My car is financed and the dealership is not trying to hear that S@&% about Safe Auto is not trying to pay. I am so glad I read theese stories. Thanx for the honesty from customers and former customers. For those of you who have been dooped!!! I apologize and wish you good luck. But I’ve changed my mind. Sorry Safe Auto!!!

Oh and you better beleive that me and my boyfriend went and found my car, because the cops was’nt gonna do it. No offense to the police officer that wrote….

I just called safeauto for a free qoute and while i was giving csr my info she also asked me for my ssn. yeah i had given it to her(dummy) and now i’m thinking why the heck did she need my ssn for. has anyone else been asked for ssn when getting a free qoute

I am not a Safe Auto customer and never will be. I’m here because not since Wal-Mart have I seen a company so willing to shove their services down my throat at every turn! I don’t watch that much TV, but have likely seen an average of five Safe Auto commercials/plugs every single day for the past three years! Make it stop, please make it stop!!! Their commercials are insulting, degrading, repetitive, and apparently misleading. Even worse, some other insurance companies are now running ads with the same tone! I live in central PA and it apparently took some scandals, lawsuits, and general bad press for Wal-Mart to learn to occasionally just shut-up…I don’t know what’s going to finally convince Safe Auto.

Thank you for all the honest statements. I was considering SafeAuto for my 21 year old daughter. I would rather not invite trouble into her life and will instead do business through a local full service insurance agency.

I have had no prob.with SafeAuto.They covered me fast,cheep,and instantly.I always get quick friendly coustomer service.Maybe some of you have had a bad expirence with a rep. or two.But thats no reason to bad talk the company

To answer the person going by the name "for0you0only" about the SSN request during a quote, yes, and SafeAuto isn’t the only company doing it. I’ve had state farm, allstate, geico, as well as numerous other companies all ask for a SSN as well as a license # to give a quote…their reason: they need to run an accident and credit check prior to issuing a quote so that it’s accurate…I can see the license #, but what does my Macy’s bill have to do with my car? I think that that too many things revolve around credit these days, what ever happened to cash and of course a good work history? All those checks take the "customer" out of customer service and just turn ppl into numbers and dollar signs. Personally I woudln’t use ANY insurance company that asks for a SSN prior to issuing a policy.

I just canceled SafeAuto insurance, I paid my first month’s premium + the $40 policy fee, then I get a bill 12 days later saying I needed to pay by April 27th (it was the 20th) and that it was my cancelation notice if I did not pay… They never sent me a first bill, I call SafeAuto and they say that they have cancelation notices on all bills, I asked them if their phone or electric bill had a cancelation notice on it when they got their first bill…. to my suprize, **silence** so I pay the 2nd payment…. I still didn’t have a insurance card or policy in my hand after paying 2 months…. So May 1st I get my insurance card and policy… the insurance card says its good until May 19th (19 days from now) I then called safe auto and threw a fit telling them I am not about to change my insurance card in my car every 30 days and to cancel my policy refund my premium and kiss my #@%@. They then appologize and say they will send me a 3 month card in the mail right away. I then tell them to go ahead and send me a 3 month policy card, and when my next bill goes unpaid they can consider that my cancelation. I got StateFarm insurance for $40 more a month, and they cover $100 in road side assistance not $25 and they also automatically include un-insured driver. As far as I am concerened it is not worth the small savings for the big headache.

Research indicates that your credit is an indicator for your likliehood to have an accident.

I called for a quote from Safe Auto, the amount of their coverage was 3x as much as I pay with my local carrier. I live in KY, the best way to go is Farm Bureau, no one here can beat there rates or service.

SAFE AUTO SUCKS SUCKS AND JUST SUCKS SOME MORE—- and we aren’t even customers. My son was rear ended by a Safe Auto insured driver over three months ago and we are still living the nightmare. Their adjuster estimated the damages thousands lower than three reputable auto shops in our area. He never looked under the car or in the trunk for damage DUH!! The auto was my son’s prized mustang that he shows and races and has worked hours and hours to build (not only hours in the car but working second jobs to pay for parts and improvements) Safe Auto has just looked the other way–they haven’t returned dozens of phone calls. The claims adjuster for the accident has played dumb (I don’t think he is playing), My son was forced to pay for the difference in damages out of pocket for fear that our insurance would skyrocket if we allowed our insurance to handle the claim (his auto insurance is very low due to good grades and no accidents)as the mustang is actually a sports-car r/t the engine size. Our insurance said it was almost easier to pay the claim themselves than to hire the lawyer and to put in the time to fight Safe Auto. It appears that what is happening is the general public at large are the ones actually paying for "minimal coverage" that Safe Auto touts in it’s commercials. Think about it—they collect money from their insured then elect to adjust claims at much lower prices–but not low enough for an insurance company or individual to waste the time and money to sue for. As a result, the actual fully insured driver is the one that bears the cost by either paying the difference themselves. having to hire a lawyer to fight,or indirectly paying with higher premiums for making a claim against their auto insurance. The way to stop them is to just stop buying from them!!! Hey Safe Auto drivers, just think of the nightmare if you have Safe Auto Insurance and happen to get hit by another Safe Auto driver!! I bet before everything is said and done Safe Auto would have both of you paying for your own damages and each others !!!

I have never had, nor ever will under any circumstances do business with Safe Auto. Their commercials alone are enough to let me know they suck. They keep you legal for less – this simply means you give them money, you get a piece of paper stating you have insurance. I wish I could get into the business of selling worthless proof of insurance certificates for 50.00 a week or more – it can’t cost more than 50 cents to print one up. That pretty much sums up what they do, I don’t understand how they could obtain a business liscense. I am sure someone will disagree with my comments, and I can only hope it is someone who can type. Even the so-called CSR from SafeAuto seems to suck at it pretty bad.

I totally agree with BJSIMP65 and most of the other posts. Safe Auto SUCKS! My wife was hit from behind by a Safe Auto driver three months ago. Safe Auto took forever to get in contact with us about the accident and never really assisted us in getting out car repaired. Luckily, my wife works for an insurance company and we turned the claim over to our insurance company in order to have out car repaired. Ever time we call to speak with the adjuster at Safe Auto to resolve this matter we just get her voice mail. Safe Auto did send a letter address to their insurer that came to OUR house. (WHAT FOOLS. THEY CANNOT EVEN SEND A LETTER TO THEIR OWN CUSTOMER TO GET HIS SIDE OF THE STORY.) Nor does the stooge answer his phone or return phone calls. Since this idiot won’t respond to Safe Auto they won’t take any action and we are still waiting to get our deductible back. We are told by our insurance company the case has to go to arbitration for us to get our deductible. It’s amazing this company does business and the fools they insure can still drive their cars. I just hope anyone that reads this is never hit by a Safe Auto driver. What a joke of a company. Their slogan says it all.

These SafeAuto stories are quite scary. Unfortunately my car was just recently hit by one of their clients. I’m having a terrible dealing with the company while trying to get payment so my car can be repaired.

6/28/06 Not only have I not been able to get in touch w/ safeauto (not deserving of capitals), but the guy who hit my car (he is safeauto client) has not been able to reach them. He has been calling for the past 3 days, leaving messages, and still no one has returned his calls. What is wrong with this company that no one there can call their own clients??

Folks– If you are a safeauto client, please find better insurance. I’ve been w/ State Farm for more than 30 years and many accidents, and that company has always come through w/ satisfactory results. I know that there may be SF dissatisfied customers, but I love that company …. or maybe I have a great agent.

2nd update from Not Happy:

Safe Auto has yet to call their client who hit my car even though he says he has called and left messages. I said send registered letter then there is no excuse about the company’s not knowing about the claim. I have turned over the whole issue to my State Farm agent who is pursuing it vigorously. Safe Auto will be sued.
