ISO: Webhost outside the US for long walks on the beach

[ music | Jesus Jones – International Bright Young Thing ]

I personally am quite happy with Dreamhost. However, I have a customer who is based in Europe, and would prefer a European web host, or one based elsewhere in the world. So, Lazyweb, does anyone know of a non-US web host with a comparable feature set? A healthy bandwidth allotment, PHP, several domains and subdomains per account, and supporting HTTPS/SSL are required, and SSH access is a really welcome feature. I’m more than open to invite or referral codes for good deals to get us in the door. Please email me or leave a comment. Thanks.

French hosting providers are ultra cheap, typically with no bandwidth cap. Not kidding. I believe it’s the result of an ultra competitive and fast growing broadband market, which has left ISPs with plenty of outbound capacity that they now try to balance with inbound traffic by offering cheap hosting/peering.

Try (only sells in France I believe, though) or ‘s “Kimsufi” (“good enough for me”). The entry level offer is a 30€/month dedicated box (dedibox, got it?) with 100Mbps non-metered. You get SSH obviously since you’ve got the whole box for yourself.

If you’re looking for a host in Europe, Servage run out of Germany. I’ve heard some stories about them being hacked and stuff, although, personally, that has never happened to myself (I think it’s just slopy web administration, but, hey.)

Servage offer 1tb bandwidth, 1tb storage (I’m not sure on the figures, but it’s something like that), PHP (latest and previous), unlimited subdomains and domains (domains may cost a little extra, I’m not sure.) HTTPS/SSL certifcates can easily be obtained and there’s sadly no SSH support.

I can also give you a referral code, which gives I believe some extra bandwidth to your account.

Please note though, while they’re good, sometimes they can have a breakdown in communication, but hopefully not very often, I’ve seen such a breakdown once, all other times they provide excellent support.
